Do you enjoy working with horses? Do you think you can make a career out of it? You'll certainly have an edge with a degree from the University of Minnesota, Crookston (UMC). UMC's program in equine science provides you with the experience you need to build a career in the horse industry - including a newly established equine breeding program and an option to prepare for veterinary studies. Graduates of University of Minnesota, Crookston's Equine Science program understand and are able to meet the daily care, nutrition, health care, and exercise/training needs of horses in their care. Our graduates have the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the equine or equine-related employment and have the business and management experience necessary to operate an equine or relate business. At UMC we balance the practical skills students need to work with and care for horses and the theory required to build a successful career. We focus on the business and management aspects of the horse industry, thus providing a broad-based education that appeals to employers. Our Equine Pre-Vet Emphasis option gives UMC graduates the large animal hands on experience that is beneficial when seeking veterinary school or an advanced degree. Our small class sizes ensure more practical skills are gained and you have better communication with your instructor. UMC offers many leadership opportunities in various clubs from the Horseman's Association, Rodeo Club, and Equestrian Team.
